February 17, 2010 at 6:30 pm at AAMARP, 76 Atherton St. Jamaica Plain.

This event is dedicated to Haitian activist Ann Marie Coriolan, who was tragically lost in the Haitian earthquake. She is a founding member of the Red de Mujeres Afro and worked as a tireless advocate for women’s rights in her country

The dialogue will discuss the categories in the 2010 census and the exclusion of Afro-Latinos. Many Latin American countries such as Panama have created such categories as afro descendent to have true representation of the population. Will you be represented in the Census? We will look at race in the age of President Obama, the impact of the earthquake in Haiti and an update on the work being done in Haiti by the Women's Movement.

We have attached articles on the Census and Haiti for you to read prior to the dialogue. You will find the Census questions being presented in Panama that is inclusive of the Black Population. Attached are also a variety of articles on Haiti.

We also present to you, Campamento Feminista International-International Feminist Campaign, Myriam Merlet, Ann Marie Coriolan and Magalie Marcelin. The Campaign is a space of reference for the international solidarity that will make possible that resources arrive directly to the women and to their organizations and that they contribute to the articulation of the feminist movement and of women of Haiti and to guarantee their decisive participation, in the process of reconstruction of the brother country.

The Red de Mujeres AFro will be meeting at the end of this month to continue our dialogue on our work in Haiti.
